GRASS CABIN

Grass Cabin

The Grass Cabin is a vacation home which sits lightly in its context, raised on piers above shifting sand on the shore of Lake Michigan. The small home is intended for short stays with family or friends, taking advantage of its setting with expansive decks and glazing.

This contemporary design explored the use of metal cladding and structure, with differing finishes to highlight their functions. The structural frame, in black steel, frames the rougher, organic feeling corten steel cladding. Narrow vertical windows accent the standing seam facade, while fully glazed ends adjacent to the deck minimize the boundary between outside and in.
