Midwest Coast Brewing

Located in West Loop’s burgeoning “Brewery Row” Midwest Coast brewing occupies a formerly derelict warehouse building. The design for their new rooftop tap room, private event space, and indoor/outdoor patio pays homage to the common Chicago warehouse, while updating the structure, life safety, and functionality of the building.

The project added new construction to the existing 2nd floor with a glass paneled retractable enclosure, new restrooms, and fireplace lounge. New MEP systems create a space that is usable year-round, while having the ability to be open-air in nice weather.

The design team developed solutions to maintain the character of the existing building, such as spray applied fire-proofing to existing exposed timber framing, preservation of the Chicago common brick, and a material palette for new construction that complimented the old.
